ROYAL TRIBUTE ON THE ASANTEHENE, OTUMFUO OSEI TUTU II 27TH ANNIVERSARY ON THE GOLDEN STOOL[PDF]
The President of the United Africa Royal Assembly, Prince Estifanos Matewos, has conveyed his profound appreciation to the Office of The President of the Government of the Republic of Ghana (President John Dramani Mahama) following an invitation to participate in the celebrations marking the 27th Anniversary of the Accession to the Golden Stool of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, The Asantehene.
In a message addressed to President John Dramani Mahama, Prince Estifanos expressed gratitude for the honour extended to him and praised Ghana’s continued commitment to the recognition and strengthening of traditional leadership across Africa. He noted that Ghana has consistently demonstrated leadership in promoting African unity, cooperation, and development through the elevation of cultural and traditional institutions as essential pillars of society.
Prince Estifanos described the anniversary as a significant moment not only for the Ashanti Kingdom but also for the broader African continent, reflecting the enduring relevance of traditional authorities in governance, peacebuilding, and sustainable development. He emphasized that the institution of the Golden Stool remains a powerful symbol of heritage, identity, and continuity within Africa’s traditional leadership structures.
While acknowledging the importance of the occasion, the Assembly President expressed regret that urgent obligations within his office required a revision of his travel arrangements, making it impossible for him to attend the celebrations in person. He affirmed, however, that the decision was made with great reluctance given the high esteem in which he holds both the Government of Ghana and the Ashanti Kingdom.
To ensure the United Africa Royal Assembly was represented at the historic event, Prince Estifanos designated a Special Envoy to attend on his behalf and to convey his greetings, respect, and best wishes to His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Government of Ghana, and all participants gathered for the commemoration.
The United Africa Royal Assembly joins the Ashanti people of Ghana and the wider African traditional leadership community in celebrating this important milestone and reaffirms its commitment to working alongside African governments and royal institutions to preserve the continent’s cultural legacy and strengthen the role of traditional leadership in Africa’s future.
